Till Roses Turn To Stone

from Moving Pictures by aka Jeffrey Scott Stewart

about

Written with Allen "Big Al" Sostrin on Music Row . . . in a writing room at Polygram where Al was signed at the time. Well, I worked on it a lot after that as well, but that's where we started this one. As was pretty much always the case, the title was Al's and the music was mine. On this one, we worked on the lyrics together.

I think of the old tune "A Daisy A Day" . . . although they are certainly different songs - different stories, different musical styles even - I think they have the same 'heart' in common.

lyrics

TILL ROSES TURN TO STONE

They met at an old-fashioned Fourth of July backyard barbecue
From his mom’s garden, he gave her a rose
Three years later before Senior Prom at Wilson Falls High School
He pinned her corsage and read her a poem

Till roses turn to stone
And all the stars fall from the sky
Till the mountains melt into the sea
Then through the longest night
You’ll never be alone
Till roses turn to stone

He’s got a picture of her on their wedding day – the perfect blushing bride
Taken just before she threw the bouquet
And he still swears that over the years they only had one fight
He sent her flowers with a note to say

Till roses turn to stone
And all the stars fall from the sky
Till the mountains melt into the sea
Then through the longest night
You’ll never be alone
Till roses turn to stone

He kneels down at her graveside
To place a wreath upon the ground
Gently touching the roses
Carved into the marble now

Till roses turn to stone
And all the stars fall from the sky
Till the mountains melt into the sea
Then through the longest night
You’ll never be alone
Till roses turn to stone

Till roses turn to stone
