If I Didn't Love You

from by Sweet Willie Milton

about

I wrote this one with my co-writer Carmen Melton Taylor. I got the idea when I was traveling to a show in Tennessee and shared it - and finished it - with Carmen. This was one of our early songs.

lyrics

IF I DIDN'T LOVE YOU

If I didn't love you would I be here now?
If I didn't love you would I be here now?
I made you cry
And I'm ashamed
But if I didn't love you
Why did I stay?

If I didn't love you I wouldn't care
If I didn't love you I wouldn't care
You think I'm leaving
But you're wrong
If I didn't love you
I'd be long gone

I hear your friends 'been talkin'
Tellin' you to leave
I thought this was something
Between you and me

If you didn't love me, like I love you
If you didn't love me, like I love you
You'd never try
to work this out
If you didn't love me
You wouldn't be here now

If I didn't love you . . .
If I didn't love you . . .
I made you cry
And I'm ashamed
But if I didn't love you
Why did I stay?
