Dusty Pirate

from Western Movies by Railtown

about

This is one of my more 'poetic' songs I think . . . and it is 'true' in a sense. That is, the song is about feeling out of place and lost and almost hopeless. I've felt like this many times unfortunately. Although the word 'pirate' is in the title, there's not a lot of water here . . . and this tune fits perfectly onto this "Western Movies" album.

lyrics

DUSTY PIRATE

I'm a dusty pirate, looking for the sea
Sailing 'cross the desert, almost drowning in this heat
Branded as an 'outlaw', but I'm just a desperate man
Destined to keep stumblin' 'cross this God-forsaken land

I pray for rain
Curse the howling wind
That whispers my name
And says I won't be home again
I'm ashamed
That I am lost, but I admit
I'm a dusty pirate
Searchin' for my ship

More than once I've found religion on the wrong end of a gun
And I've almost died a thousand times 'neath this unforgiving sun
Where rattlesnakes are serpents that appear between the waves
Of rocks and dirt and sagebrush, at the cruelest time of day

I pray for rain
Curse the howling wind
That whispers my name
And says I won't be home again
I'm ashamed
That I am lost, but I admit
I'm a dusty pirate
Searchin' for my ship

Longing for another place and time
Struggling through my life and wondering why . . .

I pray for rain
Curse the howling wind
That whispers my name
And says I won't be home again
I'm ashamed
That I am lost, but I admit
I'm a dusty pirate
Searchin' for my ship
