about

Recorded Live at The Bluebird Cafe in Nashville, TN on April 22, 1998.

Well . . . I'm 1/32 Cherokee Indian . . . and proud of it! I'm not sure what brought about this story . . .
maybe I'm his "children's children", and he's "in my veins" . . . I have always had a lot of respect for the American Indian Heritage . . . by the way, my great-grandfather (paternal grandmother's father . . .) was a cowboy . . . hmmm . . .

lyrics

CHEROKEE BLOOD

Cherokee blood flowed like water in a red colored stream
As I watched my brother dying at my feet

I had heard the soldier's rifle as he gunned the young brave down
Now I knew a life was ended at the sound

The soldier said,
Injuns deserve to die, they have no fear of God
I saw those savage eyes, just before I shot
There ought to be a price paid for every drop
of Cherokee Blood

I was proud of my people - We'd made peace with the whites
Now I vowed not to die there without a fight

Not afraid to die, I had no fear of God
I saw the soldier's eyes just before he shot
There ought to be a price paid for every drop
of Cherokee Blood

I live on as a spirit in the heart of every brave
I live through my children's children - in their veins
